YOUTH COUNCIL

Equality League supports a network of young athletes involved in competitive sports leagues by mentoring and training them as athlete advocates. The Equality League Youth Council developed during the Covid-19 quarantine.

They are applying their new advocacy skills to empower and protect athletes. In a matter of months, they crafted a letter to Congress, emailed and telephoned its members to support Senate Bill 2330 “Empowering Olympic, Paralympic, and Amateur Athletes Act”, and saw it passed by both the Senate (on August 4) and the House (on October 1) by unanimous vote. It was signed into law by the president on October 31, 2020.

Next, the EQL Youth Council will support the Commission appointed by Congress to rewrite the rules of governance for American sports — from youth to Olympic/Paralympic levels.
